New Delhi, Dec 3, 2007: The London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, has conferred a Doctorate (Honorary) on Mr. Jagdish Khattar, Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
The degree, Doctor of Business Administration (Honorary), is formally being conferred on Mr. Khattar at the University Convocation, in London, today.
According to a communication from the university, the degree is to “recognize Mr. Khattar for his contribution to the Indian Automobile industry and his popularity as a visionary leader of a successful organization.”
In its citation, the university has noted: “In 2000 (Maruti) was losing money very seriously. But by the financial year 2006-7, things had turned completely round. Maruti in that year could report a net profit of US$ 347 million . . . . There are twelve global car giants in India, but Maruti has a market share of above 50%, and in the past six years has won numerous national and international awards . . Mr. Khattar is a passionate advocate for road safety and recent Maruti initiatives include the launch of a program of driving schools.”
